The main road between Whitwell and Godshill has been temporarily closed to allow for the recovery of a car which has left the carriageway.
The incident occurred sometime before 15:30 between the junctions of Sheepwash Lane and Southford Lane.
Police are on scene and have blocked the road to allow recovery agents to clear the vehicle, which is partially blocking the road.
No one is thought to have been injured in the minor crash and the road is expected to re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – The Ford Mondeo, which has sustained front-end damage, has been successfully recovered by Bartletts Service Station.
The road has now reopened to traffic and debris cleared.
Island Echo is told that the car swerved to avoid a ‘speeding’ motorbike on the wrong side of the road.

How does this happen? Are they drugged, drunk, or just manic drivers? Can understand such in ice, snow, torrential rain, but it is becoming more than an everyday event now.
Too many cars, wait until Ryde is built to destruction, best enlarge the hospital and crem.
“Island Echo is told that the car swerved to avoid a ‘speeding’ motorbike on the wrong side of the road. ” Read. Just Read.
Let’s hope that is the case. Getting worrying now on what used to be quiet country roads, everyone seems to drive like they are motorways.
Need more speed cameras hidden with NO warning, and an instant ban for a year.
Anything else is deemed to low a risk of getting caught to worry about.
Should see the speed of the artics going to supermarkets at 4.30am ish in Ryde, nearby speed indicator sign fails to register them which says over 40mph in a 30 mph zone.
The speed limit sign is solar powered that’s why the speed is not always displayed and they’d be preparing to slow down anyway for the red light at the junction round the corner. They do make a hell of a racket though I’ll give you that but that’s the state of the road not so much their speed
It is the case! How would you feel…you drive safley at the rite speeds and a motorcycle is on arching in your direction! At over 70 miles !!! You kill them or you try to save them!! Its typical to read such bad minded thoughts of people who think they know it all! Perhaps its themselves they are reflecting on??? Take Care Dan
Safely, right
Mark, I understand the given reasons, however will say, I bet NO insurance claim has ever read the reason for the accident, is ‘I was looking at my phone, pretty girl, or boy, etc’
If the reason given is the reason, then he needs a huge thank you from the m/c
I noted though in the photographs no skid marks, and a m/c being narrow, would have thought that the car would have pulled into and scrapped all the wing and side off of the bank and damaged the car, not drove into such.
Still without being there, I guess anything can happen dependant on circumstances at the brief second of decision making.
The driver of car should be reimbursed by insurance company for saving a life now.
Think you need to read your comments before you post. Dreadful grammar.
???
How do you drive like a motorway?
So, it was another idiot then that coursed this situation?….
Caused.
The last time I corrected peoples grammar and spelling on here, I was told to “be more tolerant”! Lol.
That’s the difference between me and you.
Followed by a myriad of idiots making narrow minded, Ill judged comments.
Don’t be daft. Let the facts get in the way. How ridiculous
We need more policing to police our roads, they only show up after an accident, then its too late,
The island has become a very dangerous place to drive now, the standard of driving is getting worse by the day.
Be very aware when you take your car out, it’s a lottery now if you’re a nother casualty because of idiots on our roads.
I have noticed a serious decline in driving standards on the Island.
People speed, they overtake on the most dangerous places, they pull up to road junction too fast, so that they ‘jut out’ then ‘assuming’ that they will, due to their ‘bullying’ be waved out by some timid driver, not me.
That or they drive almost touching your bumper, in an effort to bully you to go faster, not me, I just slow down right down, and or jab the breaks hard at given intervals.
The road junctions at Arreton where the rabbit carving is needs a roundabout , and WHEN if ever it is created, build it BIG, little point in having tiny roundabout on busy junctions, as all we get if more minor, yet time and cash costly shunts.
The lights near the Hare and Hound needs a roundabout again BIG there are plenty of fields NOW they could carve a lump out of, don’t ‘wait’ until it is built up.
Also the jut out drains concrete edges and the single white lines INSTEAD of the old centre line on many narrow Island roads cause many idiots to drive further over than they should, hence a stack of broken mirrors scattered down the road into Ryde from Ashey down etc.
The white lines at the edge just make it appear narrower than what is is, then people drive too far over your side with now, no centre line to guide such.
Other moan is those huge tractors and trailers feeding Arreton disgester stinking unit with green farm cuttings, they drive too fast, are too wide, and check out all the skid marks on roads they use. NO WAY would that green energy EVER pay without EU subsidises as the amount of tractors drivers, trailers and buying the green crops to ferment is a joke
The island should be growing crops not stupid gimmicks to just ‘get the EU green quota’ up.
Apart from the pot holes, Island roads just papping a thick layer yet not addressing the underlying issue of our roads, leading to crumbling not long after they are done, everything else is fine, unless you know differently
Not as big as the decline in balanced opinions.
Along with the serious decline in sentence structure.
So you are admitting dangerous driving Perry. Jabbing on your brakes is incredibly dangerous behaviour whatever the excuse.
It’s a Hare. not a Rabbit.
The whimsical mask made it hard to tell.
Idiotic comment .
Another.
I agree with Clare. I hardly drive now since moving over here 18 months ago and seeing all these headlines about the accidents and also some of what I’ve witnessed, particularly people driving too close just because I want to stick to the speed limit. Last week I needed to go to St Mary’s and I ended up paying £43 in taxi costs rather than take my car.. I enjoy living on the island, try to keep up with what’s going on but reading about all of these accidents is just worrying.
Should of caught the bus.
It’s ‘should have’ not ‘should of’. Since you consider yourself an expert on English. Pillock.
should HAVE caught!
Have
But don’t wait at the bus stop, as they will still try to run you over as at Arreton
NOT at Arreton, as the bus stop was demolished by another ‘accident’ on the same day.
Should get out more and read less gossip.
Let alone the idiots on this forum.
Well they’d be pretty damn special if they turned up before the accident wouldn’t they? SO many clowns in one place. Feels like the circus.
Let’s hope your driving is better than your grasp of the English language.
If you are going to criticise other people’s grammar it would be better not to display your own complete ignorance of it in your reply to Lori T – ‘should have’ not ‘should of’ for heaven’s sake.
This lunatic motorcycle driver would hardly be difficult to catch. His engine screams as he speeds along the Whitwell road, often twice a day, it can be heard miles away.
Just passed this car well jammed on the hedge must have been speeding
How can you assume the car was speeding did you see it. Yes a lot of people do speed but unless you them doing it you can’t judge and I’m sure the car doesn’t have a great big sign saying sorry I was speeding
You forget. Never has there been such a collection of “Experts” in one place.
You should be thankful that the island has so many open minded unprejudiced people to give us all the informed solutions to every little occurrence on the Island. Let’s rejoice! Oh how lucky we are.
Don’t you know? They’re all experts on here.
Just brake, they’d have gone over the top. Then flown to Southampton and would never walk again. Meanwhile………
That’s some speed to manage the flight to Southampton..
So we have a suicidal motorcyclist driving on the wrong side of a wet narrow road……….or just another cabbage brained incompetant car driver. I know what my money would be on.
What category do you belong?
Cabbage brained, incompetent (note spelling) car driver/keyboard operator.
Probably a drug deal taking place 🙂
Yep, that’ll be it. Knew someone would try and squeeze a drug reference in for good measure. LOL
Why not everyone else does lol 🙂
If the car had to swerve to avoid a motorbike on the wrong side of the road then let’s not read any negative comments about the car driver. It will be a matter of time before the tw*t on the motorbike has an accident if he thinks riding on the wrong side of the road is funny….. Gives responsible bikers a bad name. I feel sorry for the car driver, hope they didn’t incur any injuries.
Didn’t read anywhere that the rider was laughing.
If it was a motorbike going too fast on the wrong side of the road, I hope the car driver got camera footage.
What’s that smell o bullshit
Can’t wait for the excuse was it spaceship or flying pig
Probably posting a comment on here whilst driving lol.
Why I have a dash cam, so I can prove it was not my fault.
And IF it were to be, launch the chip down the nearest drain.
Living in this area we regularly, sometimes twice a day, hear the screaming engine of a speeding motorcycle on the Whitwell to Ventnor road so I am not surprised to read of this accident. I wonder if any of the residents on Whitwell road have complained? It is time the police put some effort into catching this menace before he hurts someone.
If the motorcyclist is as bad on their bike as the alleged evidence suggests, St Mary’s best reserve a bad for him/her.
It’s not likely to be long before it’s going to be required.
