Police struck gold – or should that be green – when they came across a grow house in the West Wight over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Acting on intelligence, officers from Cowes Neighbourhood Team attended a property in Freshwater amid concerns that the Class B drug cannabis was being cultivated at the address.
Officers carried out a search of the property and located a purpose-built grow system and a number of cannabis plants at varying stages of growth.
A male was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a controlled drug.
The investigation will be finalised at a later date.

What a waste. Free the weed.
Yet alcohol is legal. Figure that one out.
Freshwater has been a concern for many residents for quite a while. Glad their concerns and information have finally been acted upon.
Good find.
Nobody likes a grass
Tough! Cannabis, Green, Weed whatever you wanna call it is illegal in this country.
Kids on bikes doing drug deals is not good for any community. You wanna live like that, move to Amsterdam or the Bronx, you could get into something much heavier than blow.
Factually incorrect.
In countries where it is legal to buy over the counter there is no need for the criminal element thus eliminating the kids on bikes scenario. It also removes smokers from exposure to harder drugs as there is no contact with the black market, drugs gangs, and drug dens.
Not to mention the taxable income it generates.
It is now one of Californias biggest exports! Cannabis is estimated to be the largest cash crop in California with a value of more than $11 billion.
local entrepreneur with no licence busted and under investigation, however, further up the country…
British Sugar, which produces about two-thirds of the United Kingdom’s quota of sugar, has been growing a non-psychoactive variety of marijuana plant in an 18-hectare greenhouse since 2016, after phasing out its tomato plant production at the site in Norfolk.
The company, which has a licence from the Home Office, supplies British Sugar cannabis to biotech company GW Pharmaceuticals, the company behind Epidolex.
.
as long as your cannabis growing is state sanctioned – all good – no police bothering you.
You said it yourself, non-psychoactive variety of marijuana!! Not much good to dope heads is it??
they claim it is non psychoactive – but if you have seen the security there it is something else.
Careful you might take over as the biggest moaner here. It is illegal, doh, look up illegal in the dictionary.
hardly worth the paperwork for a few plants. not exactly a commercial grow! why is this man being penalized when they are talking about setting up a cannabis farm on the island
Taking out the small growers sends a message, it will not be tolerated, after all, it is illegal. Too many idiots smoke it then think it’s ok to get in a car and drive. It’s really not. Too much of that rubbish messes kids heads up!
No harm in a bit of puff.Didn’t do Macca any harm.My wife and I are in our 60s and sit and smoke at home listening to music. We worked on the frontline of the NHS for 30 years. Are we a menace to society?
CANNABIS CULTIVATION FACILITY GIVEN THE ‘GREEN’ LIGHT ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT
So its okay for a company/farm to grow it. Its okay for the UK to expoort it but Joe blogs cannot grow it.
It does not make sense.
Cannabis used for medicinal purposes has the THC removed. You cannot get addicted and you cannot get high. Do some research on Google. A commercial grower does not sell it on the streets to kids and pot heads wanting to get high. Cannabis CBD Oil and capsules can treat all sorts of medical issues, this is what the commercial grower is supplying
Just yesterday the town stank of weed, obviously someone else has taken over.
