WARNING ISSUED FOR DENSE FOG AND FREEZING CONDITIONS

The Isle of Wight Meteorological Service has issued a weather warning for dense fog across the Isle of Wight this evening (Monday) and overnight into Tuesday.

Mist and fog patches will develop quickly from 18:00 before thickening overnight to become rather widespread.

Some of the fog will be extremely dense with visibility under 100 yards (300ft) in places.

Temperatures may fall to 0C or below in a few central parts of the Island which will allow for the fog to freeze upon surfaces such as trees, grass and cars – and potentially leading to some very slippery conditions.

Island Roads will be gritting the Island’s road network from 19:00.

Tomorrow will start with some extremely thick patches of fog which may take some time to thin and clear with some areas remaining foggy all day.
