An injured fox cub found alone in Seaview has been rescued and is now receiving expert care thanks to swift action by Friends of the Animals (FOTA) and a concerned group of visitors.
The cub was spotted on Sunday by a group staying at a property in Seaview, who raised the alarm with Friends of the Animals while attending a fundraising event at the venue. The visitors had noticed the cub in distress in the garden of their accommodation and were worried as it appeared to be alone and unable to move.
A total of 3 volunteers were dispatched to the property, unsure of the garden layout and prepared for a difficult rescue. The cub was discovered trapped between a restraining wall and a shed, only accessible from above. Using a grasper, the team carefully lifted the animal from the confined space.
He was immediately taken to duty vet Gregg at The Peoples Vet, where he was found to have a puncture wound to the stomach that had become infected, a fractured leg and signs of dehydration. The fox was kept at the clinic overnight, with staff unsure if he would survive.
On Monday morning, FOTA received an update confirming the cub had made it through the night and was in stable condition. He has now been transferred to the care of wildlife expert Edward Albert, who has over 20 years of experience working with wild animals.
Friends of the Animals have described the young fox as ‘very lucky’ and are hopeful he will make a full recovery.
