Shorwell Village Store has been given a 0-star food hygiene rating by the Isle of Wight Council, meaning urgent improvement is necessary.
Environmental Health inspectors visited the village shop on Farriers Way back on 18th September.
Inspectors were so disgusted with what they found that they awarded the lowest possible rating – zero.
It’s said that major improvement is necessary with regards to the cleanliness of facilities and the building, as well as the management of food safety. Improvement is also necessary when it comes to hygienic food handling.
Managers of the shop must now make urgent improvements to things such as hand washing facilities and pest control, as well as ensuring staff know about food safety and that food sold is safe to eat.

I hope they are not operating until this has been upgraded to 5 star.
People should not be put at risk like this. How dare they do this to people.
Environmental Health have obviously not been doing their job!!
As environmental health actually carried out the assessment, how can they be accused of not doing their job?
They were disgusted and gave it a zero, well if it was that bad, why wasn’t it closed till the clean up was done?
Only surprise was that it took so long for the authorities to act
To actually achieve a 5 star rating your paperwork needs to be in order and up to date. No excuses for cleanliness.
Why are these places not shut down and owners fined. Surely they are putting lives at risk with their disgusting ways.
If the place was that bad, wouldn’t there be mass outbreak of poisonings or something? I wonder if this health & safety thing existed in the ‘old days’, how many village shops would get modern day ratings? What would have been considered good a few decades ago, would have people screaming nowadays.
