The Island’s award-winning community radio station is looking for more volunteers to join its team, with a number of ‘amazing things’ in the pipeline for Vecits Radio. There are many different ways you can become a part of the Vectis Radio team. The most obvious opportunity for radio is to become a presenter or co-host, which will allow you to share your passion and personality as a show presenter, or co-host with experienced broadcasters to build your confidence and skills. If you still want to use your voice, but don’t fancy doing a show, then you could explore opportunities in the news team and assist with voiceover and production. There are opportunities behind the scenes too, if talking on the air isn’t for you. Everything from technical work, to DIY and keeping the station clean and tidy. Vectis Radio also needs people to collate the local news and prepare bulletins, as well as people to look after the social media presence. Ian Mac, Station Manager, says:
“Vectis Radio has gone from strength-to strength since it launched in 2010 and we’ve had a huge number of people helping us make that journey. There are some amazing things in the pipeline for the station so we need to bolster that team, not only to replace those who have moved on, but to expand what we do and spread the load more evenly. Join us and make a difference at Vectis Radio.”
You can also support withfundraising. Vectis Radio depends on fundraising to enable it to exist. Events are held regularly and you could help to organise them. If you are a dab-hand at form filling, there are grants to be applied for too. Volunteers should be based on the Isle of Wight and be prepared to sign a contract after being familiarised with rules and regulations, as an Ofcom licenced FM station. I messaged them months ago, not even a reply.
