The driver of a van has escaped with minor injuries after losing control of the vehicle at speed and crashing into a hedgerow on the outskirts of Ryde tonight (Friday).
Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called to Smallbrook Lane at just gone 21:30 to reports of a single vehicle collision.
The first responders on scene discovered a white Ford Transit Connect with front end damage.
Island Echo understands the van was being driven towards Smallbrook Roundabout when the driver drifted wide on a right hand bend onto the verge, losing control. This sent the vehicle over to the wrong side of the carriageway, coming to rest in the hedge.
The male driver had to exit the vehicle through the passenger side due to the vehicle being buried in the undergrowth.
Firefighters from nearby Ryde Fire Station have attended the scene in the interests of safety, and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have checked over the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Smallbrook Lane is currently closed in both directions whilst recovery is arranged.
This incident follows a similar crash on the main Godshill to Whitwell Road at Roud earlier this evening. Police and fire crews also attended that crash, which saw a vehicle come to rest in a hedge.
Surely if not speeding or under the influence such
accidents would NOT happen!
Will the Authorities on the island STOP speeding
OR IS IT THE ISLAND NORM TO SPEED!!
In real England other councils have speed camera’s
or speed humps etc to STOP speeding.
Might be a good idea to spend OUR council tax
on such items.
Drifted? What was he doing, writing a long text message? Medical incident?
another twat at least he’s off the road ..
Sadly there are plenty more twats on
our roads.
The law is lax on the island.
