The Cowes Floating Bridge has once again been taken out of service due to a technical fault.
The East Cowes-Cowes crossing was suspended at just before 07:00 and remains suspended at this time, despite the official website stating otherwise.
A foot passenger launch is now in operation to take foot passengers and cyclists across the River Medina.
It’s unclear what exactly has led to the suspension of service, although the western prow doesn’t appear to be operating.
UPDATE – The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that the service has been suspended and that engineers are attending the floating bridge to inspect hinge pins that have caused operational concerns.
The inspection is likely to take a couple of hours and it is expected that the service will resume later today.
UPDATE – The Floating Bridge has now re-entered service.
And so the Isle of Wight Councils most successful money wasting scheme continues at OUR expense. All the money this has cost would of built a bridge. Shambolic, incompetent, ridiculous, wasteful and a slap in the face for the people who live here. It’s a wonder they don’t bring in a “Keep the floating bridge running” precept.
amazing that it lasted this long. The report recently say it is a badly designed pile of junk, the people know it is a badly designed pile of junk but our wonderful council continue to squander our council taxes on it whilst they go to “mediation”, for heavens sake just tow it somewhere out of the way and get a reputable designer to design a new one based on the exact dimensions of the ferry currently in Portsmouth and give the contract to build to a reputable firm instead of the bunch of clowns who slapped this thing together.
I guess our council tax will rise again just to cover the money they are wasting.
Please God, someone on the Council with Balls…stop this crap.
This floating nightmare has spent more time non operational then providing a service that people need.
Someone needs to be accountable for this, we all have paid for this with one way or another and again is HAS BEEN PULLED FOR SERVICE.
It is a joke the Council is a JOKE….Bob Sealy sort it.
And this will be one of the re-deigned / rebuilt prows again?
More expense for us Council Tax payers!
