Trinity Theatre’s annual community quiz has raised many thousands of pounds for Island-based charities over the years – with this year’s beneficiaries being the donkeys at Carisbrooke Castle. The quiz, run by Cowes Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society with quiz masters Pete and Tracy Asher, raised a total of £550. The money will be going towards the upkeep and welfare of the donkeys at English Heritage’s Carisbrooke Castle, which are looked after by a separate charity. Donkeys have been at Carisbrooke Castle for hundreds of years and are most well-known for walking in the big wheel that raises water from the castle’s well. Thankfully, with modern water supply, they only do that for very short spells now. Hannah Brewer, Stable Manager said the donation will be a big help towards the ongoing costs of food, veterinary costs etc.
