Investigations are ongoing after 2 tractor drivers were arrested on suspicion of drug driving in Newport yesterday morning (Sunday).
Police were called at 09:47 to concerns about the manner in which tractors were being driven on Stag Lane on the outskirts of Newport.
A pair of tractors, with trailers attached, were stop-checked and 2 men aged 25 and 27 were arrested on suspicion of driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the legal limit.
Both were released without charge, but remain under investigation while enquiries continue.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that a 27-year-old man was given a community resolution for possession of cocaine and will have to attend a cocaine awareness course.

OMG!! The majority of tractor drivers on public roads are a total nightmare at the best of times with their “I’m bigger than you and won’t pull in to let the build up of traffic pass” attitude but factor in high as kites as well!!! They need banning for a long time.
Not what you know, its who. Farmers lads wont get same treatment as average 24 yr old drug driving or possession of class A drugs.
Are there any Fcukers who drive correctly on
island roads, everyone I see drives wrecklessly
and I have been to Specsavers.
More law and order is needed on island roads,
the island is a joke.
Forgive my pedantry, but I think you mean “recklessly”.The “w” changes the meaning entirely.
Anyone who drives recklessly is unlikely to remain wreckless for long.
Well said. Lethal combination at the best of times but add drugs in to the mix and a death will surely occur soon if this isn’t stopped NOW.
Absolutely agree. The ‘resolution’ for this is an absolute joke!! WTF is going on with the law these days??!! Basically there is none.
It will probably be a slap on the wrist and don’t do it again. We watched tractors fully laden being driven through Newport at a ridiculous speed near Church Litten. One of them narrowly missed a family waiting to cross the road as the trailer lurched around the corner.
If you drive with alcohol or drugs in your system the ban should be a minimum of 5 years.
Whilst community resolutions are fine in theory and sometimes in practice, some offending needs to be addressed by people trained to sentence. It is one thing having neighbourhood watch but you wouldn’t want them deciding who is a burglar and who isn’t. Whilst police officers can deal with some minor matters without recourse to a court, possession of a Class A drug is not one of those minor offences and the reponsibility of the police hould be to charge the individul and let the CPS and the courts deal with it from there.
They are so dangerous, they never stay on their side of the road! Today lots coming from the fields from the Yarmouth road and saw one in particular on his phone also all over the road going way too fast.
Tractor drivers using hand held phones are very visible, and I am surprised to have seen it more than once.
Going way to fast in a tractor lol you talk rubbish sue
