A man who was holidaying on the Isle of Wight when he fell and broke his leg in a remote part of the South Wight has thanked the emergency services who rescued him.
It was early last Thursday afternoon that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to St Catherine’s Hill on the outskirts of Niton when Andrew Rowes, from Winchester, fell and broke his leg in 3 places.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was called in to assist paramedics in stabilising and moving the casualty to an awaiting ambulance.
Accessing St Catherine’s Hill from Crocker Lane, emergency services were able to successfully transfer Andrew to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance. On the way, they discovered a potential heart problem too.
Now, Andrew has thanked all of those who rescued him and those who treated him in hospital.
Andrew has said:
“My grateful thanks to the brilliant coastguards who came out and rescued me from a field near St Catherine’s Hill, when I fell and broke my leg in three places.
“My thanks also to the wonderful ambulance team who got me to St Mary’s very smoothly, in good time, and diagnosed a heart-problem I didn’t know I had on the way.

Back home in Winchester, Andrew is receiving further treatment.
