Celebrating 20 years of successful production in the United Kingdom, the 2015 Rock Challenge and J Rock tour is set to be this year’s largest school based dance and drama extravaganza – and it’s arrived in Portsmouth.
11 schools from the Isle of Wight are in their final stages of preparation as their six nights of memorable entertainment draw closer. The Portsmouth Rock Challenge shows, to be held at Portsmouth Guildhall between Monday 23rd – Thursday 26th March and the J Rock shows from Friday 27th – Saturday 28th March, involve a total of 62 schools and will each feature an outstanding display of youth creativity and talent.
Each school has chosen their own theme for their eight minute performance and have spent the last few months creating, rehearsing and perfecting an array of performance, production and design elements.
Following their continued success in 2014, Sandown Bay Academy and Ryde Academy (featured photograph) strongly retained their places in the Southern Premier Rock Challenge® Division. Both teams will be bringing showcasing performances to Portsmouth next week before their Final in June. Sandown Bay have devised ‘Thale khl?¯`n’ a performance focusing on the destructiveness of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami whilst Ryde Academy are exploring an orphan who lives without love in ‘The Riddle of Riddle.’
New to the J Rock™ initiative in 2014 Haylands Primary School (pictured above), had a successful first year of entry competing in the Southampton event. Travelling to Portsmouth Guildhall next week Haylands Primary School will bring their new theme ‘Love, Hope, Friendship’ telling an imigaintive story of a young boys journey home past Gorillas, Hunters and Jellyfish!
After 20 years the Be Your Best Foundation continues to successfully produce events with the primary goal of encouraging young people to make positive life choices and be their best without the use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs. Be Your Best Foundation CEO, David Beal is confident that whilst the event is a competition, the Rock Challenge® and J Rock™ offer the chance to build confidence, team work and leadership skills in a supportive and energetic environment.
David says:
“The students spend an entire day having fun, watching and supporting other schools. From the reactions of the young people it becomes obvious why so many schools participate year-on-year. The Be Your Best Foundation are proud to be able to offer young people such a fantastic opportunity to be part of a global initiative.”
