Letter to the editor – 2nd February 2024
“Dear Sir, “I read with interest your article regarding the coroner (https://www.islandecho.co.uk/questions-over-coroners-lack-of-inquests-remain-as-families-wait-increases/), and the delays being experienced by people in the lack of progress of inquests to be held. “The estimated delay of 63 weeks seems rather lenient in my personal view, as my sister and I have been waiting for exactly 4 years, our father having passed away on this day in 2020. “I read an article just recently, which I found online, regarding a family who had waited 6 years. For us, reading the findings of that particular inquest, which bore similarities with our concerns, was worrying, having occurred 5 years before the passing of our dad, and the subsequent claims that the issues found had been acted upon and improved in our eyes did not bear witness. “I telephoned the coroners office a month ago and spoke with a lady who ‘was helping out’ because of staff illness, and I’m still waiting for the correspondence which would be sent to me. “Whatever the reasons, the coroners office does not seem to be functioning in a timely manner, and seemingly hasn’t done for some time, which begs the question, what do these people do? “On a side note, when I Google Isle of Wight coroner, a side bar headed Coroners Office states that it’s permanently closed, perhaps that answers our questions”.

It’s not only on the Island unfortunately. There is a massive backlog, shortage of personnel and of course lack of resources in general. My family is in a similar position and awaiting an inquest but the coroners have always been very polite and professional. Why not ask the Prime Minister this question as it is his party that is responsible for this mess…
What does function on this island
Rather than pointing the finger at the coroner’s office is this not just another example of Tory Britain and their chronic mismanagement and underfunding of public services?
Considering the seriousness of this subject why do you have to reduce it to your own disjointed view on life, keep your narrow minded simplistic views to yourself
It’s precisely because cuts to all Public Services have had such serious consequences, that the root cause ie severe underfunding, should be acknowledged. It affects us all, whether or which ever way we vote.
Or perhaps its the knock on effect of the WHO saying don’t do autopsies during pandemic ?? Which the Italians broke thankfully and helped to diagnose the symptoms better.
“the WHO saying don’t do autopsies during pandemic!”
but the WHO has no legal authority,.. they can only ‘recommend’ things.
the reality is, of course, mostly down to what Spaff said above…
Yes recommend, which they did, and what did the government puppets do? Followed their recommendations as we all know. Like lock downs etc. Do you know about the WHO GLOBAL TREATY? Course you dont! Just another conspiracy that happens to be true.
Massive underfunding and a pandemic, no surprise. Must be very distressing for families as well as fulling idiotic conspiracy theories.
If people were polite and would stop keeling over from the vaccine, this wouldn’t be an issue
