UPDATED: A temporary speed reduction is to come into force on the Cowes-bound section of the Medina Way dual carriageway in Newport.
The new 40-mile-an-hour limit will be brought into force following damage to a safety barrier. The barrier remains in place but has been deemed no longer sufficient to restrain vehicles travelling at the national speed limit.
A spokesperson for Island Roads has told Island Echo that they will be able to say how long the restriction will be in place as soon as they have an agreed design for the remedial works.
The speed limits on the southbound section of the dual carriageway (the approach to Coppins Bridge) remain unaffected.
UPDATE MONDAY 4TH AUGUST: Work will take place tonight (Monday) to install the required signage for the temporary 40mph limit.
From around 19:30, one lane of Medina Way (northbound) will be closed to allow the work to be undertaken. This should take around three hours, according to Island Roads.
