A technical issue has forced the suspension of Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea service this morning (Friday).
With Island Flyer undergoing winter maintenance and Solent Flyer unable to begin operations as planned at first light, the cross-Solent operator has had to cancel all timetabled crossings.
It was initially hoped that the problem would be resolved by now, but engineers had advised that the craft is still not ready.
The next update is now not expected until 09:45, suggesting the service is to remain suspended until at least 10:00.
Passengers are being directed to use Wightlink’s Fastcat service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour instead, with Hovertravel tickets being accepted on this rival service.
It’s not been a good week for cross-Solent travel with technical troubles hitting all 3 operators in one way or another, with adverse weather conditions set to further hinder the ability to operate over the next 48 hours.
