A historic pram race through Cowes will raise vital funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight next Sunday (24th August).
The event has been running for 40 years and the latest iteration will support the Island’s hospice, which delivers 24/7 expert end-of-life care in homes, on its inpatient unit and through the John Cheverton Centre community space.
Starting at 11:00, at The Painters Arms in Cowes (Cross Street), the challenge sees teams compete for best design before setting off on a pub crawl around the town. For 2025, teams will leave the start line to the sounds of Fat Samba.
The idea is to return to The Painters Arms from around 15:00, where Medina Marching Band will perform a short time later. Chris Quinton will set up for open mic volunteers from 13:00. This will be followed by DJ Sminky, in the evening.
Pram race entries are shrouded in secrecy and teams do not know what fellow competitors have produced until the big day.
It is not too late to decorate a pram – simply turn up at the start line and prepare for a day of fun.
