A tattoo studio could be heading to the heart of Cowes.
Applicant, Chris Norris, along with 2 other artists, is proposing to open The Alchemy Arts Club on Cowes High Street at the former Quay 4 shop with a ‘sincere hope’ to establish a long-term business in the centre of the town.
The property has been empty for nearly 2 years now, with the ladies clothes shop closing in August 2019.
Planning documents submitted by Mr Norris say they would be obliged by the lease to ensure the appearance of the property would be in keeping with the Cowes aesthetic and look to create a smart, minimal and classic exterior.
To update the shop, the outside would be black with gold lettering and detailing but display no outward signs of tattooing and have the general look of an art studio/gallery.
A frosted-glass partition wall would be installed towards the front of the shop, separating the waiting area from the studio.
The 3 fully qualified and licensed artists have a combined experience of 24 years and have said they have built a regular and reliable client base.
As well as tattooing, with work done through appointment only, Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 18:00, the mixed-media artists intend to sell prints from the studio as well.
Documents also say the premises would be kept sanitary, due to the nature of the work, and all cleanliness and safety regulations will ‘of course’ be adhered to.

Great, more child tax credit money spent on body ‘decoration’ of the parents, paying out hundreds, yet then claiming free hand outs to feed their offspring.
Classy.
What a judgemental human being you are. So only people on benefits get tattoos. I think the problem in this society is people like you not people like them! Look at the way you talk about people you don’t even know!
I agree, also isn’t it funny how the “homeless” mostly have the latest mobile phones too.
As somebody that works with homeless people I can tell you they don’t.
Well thats very judgemental isn’t it!
People from all walks of life have tattoos. I bet you even have a friend who you wouldn’t have thought would have one, but has!
Tattoos are personal things & the people who get them usually have a reason for what they get. They could’ve saved up their money over quite a while to get it. Could’ve been a fiver a week.
So who the heck are you to judge the type of person who gets them & how they get the money to pay for them.
Please think before you say things like that.
And no I’m not on benefit & yes I do have tattoos & every one has a specific memory.
Judgemental or not there is truth in it.
I have tattoos, I also have a full time job, a family and I don’t owe anybody anything (apart from a mobile phone contract which I’ve never missed a payment on), but thank you for your insightful input.
Of course the 1 in 10 who do work, don’t claim for their vast brood, and who are paying their way in life WILL come on here bitter.
It is the other 9 in 10, who, easy to spot, will NOT be agreeing with me, as they know I am right, and likely don’t waste their valuable time posting on such places, to busy doing deals, breeding then next delightful generation, or out of it on some substance, whilst the eldest child goes to the food bank to feed the younger delights.
SEE life as it is, don’t ‘cherry pick’ the few who wish to cover their skin in ink and fund it ALL themselves.
Lol, trying not to rise to the bait, you must be on a wind up, surely, but as you sound like a typical second home owner residing in Cowes with your yaughting pales, it is people like yourself who give your baby boomers generation a bad name,I bet you have never done an honest days work in your lives, bank of mommy n father, or you could just be a banker, money breads money! But alas you sound a bit to thick for that, on a lighter note, what sort of name is Elmer, why don’t you jog on back to sesame Street! X
Well I wish them luck …
Better than another empty shop …
Look at Newport …
How sad, this article brings us news of a new service and venture of three artists and its littered with such grossly stereotypical comments about benefit fraud?! I can say i have worked since the age of 15, I’m now a nurse, and i too owe nothing. 2 years ago i had a double mastectomy following breast cancer. Recently a studio alike this helped me reclaim my femininity and cover the scars that i had been left with. I cannot tell you how idiotic and unwelcome your stereotyping is here. Good luck to the alchemy arts club. I’ll be popping by!
