Tamarind Indian Restaurant in Newport has been named Restaurant of the Year for the South East at the Bangladesh Caterers Association’s annual awards.
The prestigious awards ceremony was held on Sunday (30th October) at the Park Plaza Westminster Hotel in London, hosted by celebrity and catering industry expert, Greg Wallace MBE, along with TV personality and entrepreneur, Tasmin Lucia-Khan.
The theme for this year’s awards – now in their 16th year – was ‘Celebrating Success & Inspiring Others’.
Tamarind saw off stiff competition from fellow shortlisted nominees The Paradise Balti House (Petersfield), Haldi Restaurant (Portsmouth) and Gandhi Restaurant (Portsmouth) to be crowned 1 of 11 regional winners in the UK.
The popular Isle of Wight restaurant was shortlisted and chosen from hundreds of outstanding entrants across the UK and was judged on food presentation, innovation, hygiene standards and customer care.
M.A. Munim, President of the BCA, gleefully said:
“What a night! Congratulations to all the winners. BCA Awards celebrates the success of local restaurants, who are critical in keeping local communities thriving.”
Tamarind Indian Restaurant and its team are indeed proud to be part of the legacy of Great British Curry and proud to serve the community with delightful food and excellent customer care.
Eastern Eye & Monsoon are way above this, but well done
I found some staff at the Monsoon in Ryde to be really rude and abusive …..wouldn’t want to to have their food again !!
Cinnamon, in Regent St, Shanklin, a decent Bangladeshi restaurant.
I take it Kuti’s in Southampton didn’t enter then? They would white wash the lot of them.
Only went to Tamarind once …. Complete disaster TBH .. will never go back .. food/service/mistakes ….ruined the evening .. was then introduced to Masala Bay, Ventnor . Would highly recommend.. well done Tamarind .. anyway.
