For over a decade The Sweetcorn Fayre at Arreton Barns has been a staple event in many Islander’s and holidaymakers’ event calendars. However, the team behind this popular event have regretfully decided to call it a day.
With the past few years being hampered by the weather and then the COVID pandemic, the team has taken stock and made the difficult decision to scrap the event altogether.
The Sweetcorn Fayre grew from a small fete style event back in 2006 to the sensational 2-day event of recent years. The last Sweetcorn Fayre was scheduled for its 13th year in 2019, where unfortunately due to high winds and rain it had to be cancelled.
Jane Gibbs, co-owner of Arreton Barns and organiser of the Sweetcorn Fayre, has said:
“Over the past few years we have been lucky enough to work with some amazing and talented people to bring a fun, family and great value event to the Isle of Wight. However, we have become a
victim of our own success and organising an event of this scale with mainly volunteers has become too big to manage.”“We know the Sweetcorn Fayre will be sadly missed by many, but not to worry there will be many other events happening at Arreton Barns over the coming year at Arreton Barns; from Easter fun, farm auctions, motorbike gatherings, a Platinum Jubilee tea party and shindig and so much more.”
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved with the Sweetcorn Fayre.”
The Sweetcorn Fayre has raised thousands of pounds for local charities during its reign including Barely Born, St George’s School, Mountbatten Hospice, Challenge and Adventure and most recently, Beaulieu Respite.
This is such a shame i loved this fayre
