A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a number of vehicles were crashed into in Ventnor last night (Tuesday).
Police responded to the town at just before 20:30 when it was reported that a car had collided with a number of vehicles in the West Street and North Street area.
Officers located and detained a 38-year-old man and he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
He remains in custody at Newport Police Station this morning ahead of a charging decision being made later today.

Too much drink and drug driving on the island, not to mention all the other idiots on the road….
Why do these idiots do this. It is totally wrong to drink then drive a car. When will these people learn or are they all too stupid? Yes, too stupid to know any better.
A significant factor in the failure of police to react quickly to allegations of drunk and drug fuelled driving can be illustrated by my experience a couple of years ago.
I was following a car from Newport to Cowes at about 9:30pm. The driver ‘curbed’ the car on four occasions over a couple of miles. The driver then accelerated fast and then braked suddenly for no apparent reason.
I stopped and called 999 to police and alleged that the driver might well be intoxicated or drugged up. I got a very cold reception from police and told to call 101 instead. Twenty minutes later I managed to speak to someone. Too late!
What will it take for these idiots to realise they could kill someone? Imagine if it was their family? Take the licences away indefinitely!
Christmas coming up, stay at home have a drink you stupid …… idiots!!!
High time all cars were fitted with a device to check for drink and drugs before the thing will start. Whilst they are about it, it could also check that the driver is taxed and insured to drive it.
