A driver who travelled the wrong way down a main road in Sandown before crashing into a parked car late last night (Friday) has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The Ford Fiesta collided with a Nissan Juke outside The Rock Shop on High Street, where it becomes Beachfield Road, at just before midnight.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 11.42pm last night (21 August) with reports of a collision on Beachfield Road, Sandown.
“It was reported that a Ford Fiesta had collided with a Nissan Juke.
“Nathan Howe, aged 26 years, of Thorndale Road in Sunderland, has been charged with drink driving in connection with this incident.
“He was bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 2 October.”

Golly I bet he will be worried UNTIL he sees the sentences handed out by the gullible, or more likely ‘instructed’ magistrates.
As HMG have filled our land with many of the world’s undesirables who then, doing such vile, violent crimes end up in our prisons, thus making sentences for our own populace for what were once considered bad crimes, now just a token gesture wrist slap.
As more see and realise this, the deterrent is gone, and the problem gets ever worse.
Wait until Pennyfeather et al is filled, we will have both types then to contend with in our court system which is clearly unable to do what it ought now.
God help your children, their lives will almost certainly be far worse than your own.
I expect people to say he is a jolly fine fellow just like they did with the doctor. So to be consistent as i said then throw the book at him.
Yes Stu… funny the doctors friends aren’t supporting this person!! I thought they would be out in force stating what a decent man this person must be and how there must have been a reason for it! After all it’s been a very stressful time!!
Some of these people are so full of double standards it makes me angry
Indeed, it’s those morons who are contributing to a two-tiered justice system. One law for thee, another for me.
First reported by island echo? Over 11 hours after the incident!!! Getting as bad as the county press pmsl
That’ll cost him a few bob to come back down from Sunderland in October…Not exactly a day trip….
Comment violation, Martin.
The rules clearly state you cannot comment on an Island Echo article without mentioning Pennyfeathers, no matter how tenuous.
Perhaps, just perhaps, the ruination of our Island is important to those who don’t just see it as a disposable stepping stone, a place to make money and then move on, once it is ruined, as will the ‘developers’ of Pennyfeathers and the Pinks at Bullen.
Perhaps sentence him to report to Newport Police Station every week for a year.
He could drive downthen get a train back.
No worries for him. He’ll probably get his expenses paid by the court (us!)
He probably won’t bother turning up.
He’ll probably be aloud to do it through video link from Sunderland
Don’t let him go cause he won’t be back
Well he drives a Fiesta so could very well be a chav with no regard for safety lol
He probably improved the look of the Juke, because they are the ugliest cars on the road..
Drives a Ford, says it all.!! Perhaps he was down here sussing out where to doss down next October for the proposed motor cycle racing.!!
I think you are been very unfair to our high quality magistrates. i think you will find his sentence will be a large fine and disqualified and then given all his expenses to travel down in a chauffeur driven car .Then given two weeks holiday on the isle of Wight to get over his stress.
People who are bloody stupid enough to drink and drive should be put in prison and then throw away the key..end of. Danger to themselves and others. Bloody lunatics! Too much time spent discussing the crime, just throw the pathetic losers in jail.
Sunderland? He really did take a wrong turn somewhere! Lol
Yeah…In Sandown.
I wounder what GP did this one.
Bast**d. Take his licence away and fine him heavily.
He might be a GP don’t be so nasty. He might have a lot going on in his life. He might also be a very nice person who is kind and caring
Oh dear. It looks as though the echo has censored me.!!
Big mistake, driving a Ford. Was he sussing out somewhere to doss down next October for the proposed motor cycle racing and where the nearest ‘mainland’ operated burger van will be positioned?
Let’s hope he enjoys his long walk home
