A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a single vehicle crash near Wootton.
Officers were alerted to the incident near to Kite Hill during the early hours of this morning (Sunday), but when local units arrived on scene the driver had already fled.
Police Dog Kyra was called in and was successfully able to track the driver, who was swiftly arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The vehicle was recovered from the scene by a recovery agent.
Enquiries are ongoing.

Didn’t take long did it. The 1st drunk driver of many I expect. I thought the pub were responsible for stopping customers drinking to much. Still at least he didn’t injure anyone else. Well done to the police for catching this idiot.
too
I agree with you Mark in that there would have been plenty of people driving over the limit this morning from the night before. The police should have been out in force in anticipation of it but of course the level of policing is dire to the extent that the person in this instance.only got caught due to an accident. Pubs can look out for obvious drunkenness but deciding to get behind the wheel after a drink is about personal responsibility and no one else to blame.
Bearing in mind that last Saturday night, Shanklin was in full-on New Year’s Eve mode, it is an absolute wonder how three hundred people (at least) were not arrested for breach of rules…. My coachman filmed them after taking an NHS. worker to the train. All over the shop! Those that weren’t loved up were fighting. Hard to believe, sir, this is the nation which squared up to Hitler and stood alone for many months….!
This was predicted. Well done to police dog Kyra. Good job in catching this waste of space drink driver. Thank God nobody else was involved or injured.
What an idiot. Hope he goes to jail
Some people are beyond help. They just ignore the law and need a severe punishment.
Thank heavens no one else was involved.
so that is 2 incidents reported by Echo of police dealing with the after effect of people Drinking ….fighting as well as driving ..so who picks up the bill..we do …these offenders should pay for the time the police have spent dealing with these people …good on Boris for allowing the pubs to reopen
Who said he was at a pub even so he shouldn’t off been driving the twat
Anyone drink driving should have their car taken and sold and the cash used for the NHS and have a minimum fine of £1000 and a year inside.
Same for drug driving. Anything else will cut no ice with such low life who are happy to risk YOUR loved ones lives.
