A drugs raid at a property in Pan took an unexpected turn this morning (Thursday) when the Police’s suspect crashed his car as officers prepared to enter the address.
It was just before 07:40 that officers executed a pre-planned drugs warrant on a residential address on Pan Lane in Newport.
At the exact time officers were forcing their way into the semi-detached home, a Jaguar XF collided with a parked Volvo outside the address, with the driver then fleeing the area. It’s thought the Jag reversed into the Volvo, parked on the opposite side of the road.
Bizarrely, the smashed up Jaguar returned just a few minutes later and the driver – a 29-year-old man – was detained by Police and subject to a drugs wipe procedure.
Meanwhile, officers carried on with a search of the address – having cut open the double glazed door – and seized a quantity of cannabis, drugs paraphernalia and a machete.
The Jaguar driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – namely a knife, drug driving, and failing to stop.
He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We continue to encourage anyone with information on drugs supply in their neighbourhood to report this to police. Supply of drugs, whether that be cannabis or Class A drugs, funds organised crime and is often linked to violence, the use of weapons, and exploitation of vulnerable people.
“We don’t want this on our Island and we are committed to proactively targeting those involved in this type of criminality.
“To report information to us, call 101 or visit our website. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
Make the island a drug free destination,

Did someone mention the PAN ESTATE? It has certainly gone down the pan.
Obviously flee’d long enough to get rid of class A drugs, burner phone and possibly gun so just gets slap on the wrist. Wonder if a member of police tipped him off last minute.
