The Cowes Floating Bridge service across the River Medina has been suspended this evening (Monday) due to yet another issue. An unusual noise noticed by the vessel’s crew shortly before 16:45 has led to Floating Bridge No.6 being pulled from service. The technical troubles couldn’t come at a worse time as Red Funnel’s Red Jet service has been suspended today, meaning those heading home to West Cowes have travelled via the East Cowes vehicle ferry – intending to use the Floating Bridge to get back to the right side of the Medina. A foot passenger launch is in operation but with significant delays. The hi-speed Red Jet service has now resumed between West Cowes-Southampton, which will ease pressure on the Jenny foot passenger launch. It is unknown when the chain ferry will return to service – but if history is anything to go by it could be days or even weeks!
