A 2-car crash in the outside lane of the northbound side of Medina Way has closed the dual carriageway in Newport this evening (Monday).
Police have closed both lanes of the northbound carriageway as a result of the shunt between a silver Volvo and a silver Porsche.
The incident happened shortly before 18:30, just as the sun started setting on the Isle of Wight.
Firefighters from Newport have responded to the incident in the interest of scene safety, alongside Police.
All traffic is being tapered off the dual carriageway and exiting at Lidl, with local diversions via Riverway or Hunnyhill thereafter.
Recovery of both vehicles has been arranged, with Medina Way expected to reopen within the next hour or so.
UPDATE @ 20:20 – The road has now fully reopened following recovery of both vehicles.
Police have confirmed that no injuries have been sustained.

The dual carriageway in Newport does NOT have a fast lane. It is very clear that from St Mary’s roundabout to Coppins bridge and vice a versa you get in the lane corresponding to your onward journey (IWC) signs and road markings. Unfortunately there is a local misconception to this fact.
I thought it was another Island Autobahn.
Vehicles speed along this dual carriageway faster
than a motorway.
Speed cameras are required on such a road,
hopefully devolution comes with speed cameras.
I agree… BUT if you’re in the outside lane, don’t drive at 30mph…
If you search the crash data. Speed is the biggest factor,,, but before all you snail drivers get too excited It’s you that cause most of them because you don’t keep up with the flow of traffic driver to the speed and conditions of the roads
Why not Martin? If you calculate the length of that stretch of road and the difference in time taken to cover it (given no hold -ups) travelling at 30 as against 40mph, it works out at a couple of minutes ‘delay’ at worst. Of course If you’re unlucky, all sorts of minor and major events on that stretch and beyond your control could cost you much more time. Is it really worth getting capital letter upset over someone driving within the speed limit? Just asking.
wrong. It’s a dual carriageway so after the unrestricted sign you can travel up to 70mph in the right hand lane essentially making it a fast lane.
crashes happen at the bottom because people are trying to merge across to lanes are they are to old to look
That is NOT what the IWC, Police or signage says. That is why the camera is placed where it is. It is more successful at catching speeding vehicles than all the other Island cameras put together.
I work on the towns cctv cameras. The dual carriageway camera is not and doesn’t not have the ability to catch speeding cars.
70mph don’t make me laugh, most numpties
drive along the dual carriageway 90mph+
Hence so many shunts on the island!
Ah yes, I forgot that accident in Ryde was due to a speeding motorist on the dual carriageway
Everywhere you go on the island numpties
are speeding
Time for speed cameras.
Fine the B’stards
You’re in fantasy land again
Yes as usual, he always blames speed .. he must be the bloke I’ve followed at 35mph everywhere even in the 30 . When will people understand it’s NOT speed it’s POOR driving that is the Biggest contributor
Sunset light can be blinding this time of year…. Brake lights can be hard to see..
Quite correct, we do not have “fast lanes” on ANY road in this country.
Only a FOOL breaks the two second rule!
No such thing as a fast lane, overtaking lane you mean!
