The Sunken Secrets museum at Fort Victoria in Yarmouth has long been a popular attraction for tourists and school children alike, all who visit to gain knowledge about the history within the Island’s waters and it now needs your help.
The exhibition features displays about local maritime history, shipwrecks, the submerged prehistoric landscape between the island and the mainland and, new for 2014, stories of animals of war. It is run by the charity, the Maritime Archaeology Trust, and is in need of volunteers for the forthcoming season.
By volunteering your time at the museum you will get to learn all about the history around the island and help the valuable work of the charity. Duties include maintaining displays, welcoming visitors, helping school groups and working in the gift shop. Volunteering positions are totally flexible throughout the week – from a few hours to all day.
If you are able to spare any time for this valuable asset to the island, please contact Caroline Barrie-Smith on 023 8023 7300 or email [email protected].
