As the evening sun shone through the large stained glass windows of St. Saviours on the Cliff Church, Shanklin on Friday the 9th August, the Newchurch Male Voice Choir, entertained a large audience with their Summer Serenade. With a variety of songs from the shows, Anthem (from Chess), Maria (West Side Story), New York (from show of same name), Oh what a beautiful morning (Oklahoma) The Gendermes (Genevieve De Branant by Offenbach) then a Back to the 60’s medley of House of The Rising sun, Sealed with a Kiss and He ain’t Heavy. Other songs include ‘Going Home’ from the New World Symphoney. Their guest artist was the brilliant Soprano Lucy Hinkley who kept the show theme going with ‘The Sun Whose Rays (Mikado) ‘I dreamed a Dream (Les Miserables) Wonderful, Wonderful Day (7 Brides for 7 Brothers) ‘I could have danced all night’ (My Fair lady). There was a rousing finale with ‘Sweet Caroline’ followed by ‘You’ll never walk alone’ Both the Choir and Lucy were accompanied on the organ by the incredible Cate Clark on her visit home to the Island. The sum of £426 was raised through the retiring collection.
