Over 100 people attended the Isle of Wight Scottish Country Dancing weekend school at Shanklin Hotel on 16-18th February. Teachers Helen Russell (a past RSCDS Chairman) and Andrew Nolan (a young Data Analyst from Edinburgh, who also plays piano for SCD) were both inspiring with differing teaching styles; both challenging the dancers, who magnificently rose to the occasion. The popular Craigellachie SCD Band from Berkshire played for the 2 evening dances, performing uplifting music and several encores. They also provided the musicians for the classes. People attending came from England, Wales, Scotland, France, Norway and even Canada. 1 attendee said:
“It was such a lovely weekend. People were so kind and friendly, and it was wonderful for us to meet so many dancers from the past and present.”
For anyone wishing to learn Scottish Country Dancing, there will be a Beginners and Improvers workshop run by 2 local teachers at 10:30 on Saturday 16th March at Gurnard Village Hall. All ages are welcome and you don’t need a partner. For further details, contact Judy on 07587179570.
