The Phoenix Choir opened its 2024 season last Saturday (13th April) with a concert at Aspire in Dover Street, Ryde. A warm welcome was given by the enthusiastic audience who were presented with a wide range of different musical genres. The wonderful acoustics in the community hub (once Holy Trinity Church) added to the enjoyment of the event both by those attending and the choir. In addition to the 12 songs sung by the whole choir, the programme included 6 solos and 1 duet; Jan Merwood with “Caledonia”, Alistair Drain with “All You Need Is Love”, Pat Attrill with “Sweet Dreams”, Paul Stevens with “Gloria – The Gift Of Life”, Ian Attrill with “Distant Drums”, Elizabeth Habens with “Pie Jesu” and Maribel Glover and Caroline Jacobs with “Fernando”. At the end of the evening, the choir received a standing ovation and the event raised over £500 for Aspire’s Community Lunches Fund. The Choir’s next concert will be on Saturday 8th June at All Saints Church, Newchurch at 19:00 in aid of their Tower Fund Appeal – the restoration of their iconic white church tower.
