A ‘spy plane’, reported to be fitted with secret surveillance equipment capable of intercepting mobile phone calls and eavesdropping on conversations, has been seen flying above the Isle of Wight today (Tuesday).
The twin-prop Cessna F406 Caravan II plane appears to have departed from its base at Farnborough this morning before heading towards Bournemouth. Then, at around 08:45, the plane flew across the Island to Bembridge where it circled multiple times over a period of 20 mins.
G-TDSA has been at the centre of a number of national newspaper reports and online discussions over the years with many claiming the plane is one of several used by the Metropolitan Police.
An Island Echo reader has today said that the plane ‘followed’ him and a friend whilst they were having an in-depth conversation about the government. Simon Dove claims that the plane flew overhead, a hatch opened and then someone took a photograph. The plane then flew off.
Simon says “it was one of the creepiest things I’ve ever experienced”.
3 years ago Island Echo reported a similar sighting of the same plane over the East Wight.
It is unclear why Bembridge is of particular interest…
