The South Wight has yet again been plunged into darkness following another power cut, which comes less than 24 hours after Tuesday morning’s fault.
Homes and businesses are without power in Ventnor with surrounding villages including Whitwell, Niton, Rookley, Godshill and Chale also affected.
72 postcode areas – the same postcodes as yesterday morning – are without power and are likely to remain off the grid until approximately 04:00.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are aware of the fault and are sending engineers to investigate.
SSEN says that power was lost at 00:41. However, homeowners reported lights dimming in the South at 00:35.
A spokesperson for SSEN has this morning said:
“We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can. If you need more information, please call us on 105 or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity) and quote reference ‘GM7008’”
UPDATE @ 01:15 – SSEN has managed to reroute supplies and get the majority of properties back on the grid.

I like your ‘wit’ my Lady! We all take our utilities for granted, we switch the switch and the light comes on, we turn the tap and water comes out. Just goes to prove we shouldn’t. At least the power went out at night time and was back on at 04:00?….many an alarm clock will have to be reset no doubt.
Went out twice for around 40 minutes. Woke up both times for some reason to see my alarm clock flashing! Lucky I did so I could reset it. Have to start using batteries or mobile! Hope that’s the end of them 3 in less than 24 hours feels like going back to the seventies! Where’s the candles?!
Not a good idia for anyone to stock up there freezer these days, not on the island anyway.
freezer food will be perfectly ok for 24 hours without power if you do not open the door at all

If you do not open the freezer door at all it will be somewhat challenging to get your frozen pizza out.
