Students at some Isle of Wight primary and secondary schools are being allowed to wear their PE kit to school due to the prolonged and unusually high temperatures being experienced locally.
Yesterday was one of the hottest days of the year so far with 32c reached in Ryde, with no signs of the heatwave letting up. As forecasters predict even hotter conditions early next week headteachers have made the unusual uniform decision.
Medina College and Carisbrooke College – which have uniforms consisting of a blazer – have announced that students are being given the option to attend school in their official school PE kit. This rule is in force from today until further notice. Parents are being reminded that students must be in their official federation kit and alternatives to this are not permitted.
It’s understood that other schools such as Nine Acres Primary in Newport have taken a similar stance.
All schoolchildren are being reminded to drink plenty of water and to wear sun cream.

How can school get away with dissgrimination and putting children’s health at risk . PE kit with logo is not compulsory for PE as too expensive, yet your average working families (not on benefits)who are struggling with food costs and energy etc are now forced have their children exposed to bullying as will have to wear uniform and stand out ,not to mention health due to heat stroke. Government/Council/charities all worried and people suicidal with worry how-to make ends meet,yet schools can insist on logo PE kit,disgusting. Why do any PE kit have to have logo anyhow ?- maybe agency teachers might forget what school they are working in?.

Years ago school uniforms for the summer had cotton dresses for the girls and short sleeved shirts and shorts for the boys which both looked smart.
