The red carpet was rolled out at a glittering ceremony for a group of slimming superstars from the Island, who were nominated for 2 Oscar-style awards for helping hundreds of people in the area to lose weight every week. The 9-strong Slimming World team, who between them run 17 slimming groups across the Isle of Wight, were 1 of just 5 up for the accolade of Slimming World Team of the Year 2024 at a prestigious awards ceremony in Birmingham. Kim Street and the Carisbrooke group were also nominated as Slimming World Group of the Year 2024 out of over 10,000 groups UK-wide. Kim, Isle of Wight Team Developer, said:
“My members and I were over the moon to have been recognised as 1 of the top 5 Groups in the UK and as a team we were simply blown away by the nomination for Team of the Year. “We are all passionate about helping people to change their lives by losing weight and seeing their success is the most important thing to us, but being nominated for these 2 awards was a wonderful bonus. It’s great to be able to tell people in our local area that they have some of the best Slimming World groups in the UK and Ireland on their doorstep”.
5 members of the team travelled to Birmingham for the awards ceremony and celebrated along with their colleagues at home when the Isle of Wight Team was announced as the winner of Team of the Year 2024. When accepting the award Kim explained:
“We have worked really hard this year to make sure that members who join our groups get the highest level of service and the weight loss success they deserve. Winning Team of the Year isn’t just a triumph for us, but also for all of our members on the Isle of Wight. They are the ones who make our groups the success that they are, with their fabulous energy, the wonderful support they give each other every week, and, obviously, their impressive weight losses while following Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan”.
Carisbrooke were pipped at the post for Group of the Year by a group in Weston Super Mare, but Kim and her members have their eyes on next year’s award! Kim adds:
“Obesity is one of the most serious issues in the UK and Ireland and affects over 66% of the population. People who struggle with their weight suffer a range of health problems and impacting on mental health which can affect their working and personal lives every day, so our support has never been needed so desperately. “Our Team of the Year are striving to help as many people as possible to shed those unwanted pounds and stones and we plan to be opening groups in new areas of the Isle of Wight as soon as possible”.

Spot the Incel…
What an arrogant and ignorant comment. People put on or can’t lose weight for a number of reasons. Medical, inherited, bone structure, medication. I see your mouth is as big as your comment, maybe you should get some training on knowledge before you spout off .
People become overweight because they eat more than they need to eat. Basic.
Whilst I agree Robot’s comment is a pathetic attempt at humour your reasons for weight gain are laughable at best. Yes, medication can cause you to gain weight but bone structure? Pardon? Your skeletal composition bears no relevance to your body fat?? And inherited? Utter nonsense…unless of course you mean inherited lifestyle including no exercise and poor eating habits?
Now what was that old saying…….ermmm…..oh yes …….something to do with practice and preaching, but can’t remember exactly what it was……
What ? …no Donna Jones ? ..
