Motorists are facing significant delays in the Wootton area this morning (Thursday) due to the closure of Park Road between Lushington Hill and Wootton Common.
Traffic is backed up down Lushington Hill to Racecourse Roundabout and beyond, with motorists heading out of East Cowes the worse hit as queues are also backing up towards Whippingham.
Island Roads have closed Park Road for carriageway repairs – just a month after the road was closed for a 2-day period, which also caused traffic chaos. It is understood the road is closed between 09:30-15:30 both today and tomorrow.
Southern Vectis say their Route 4 and 9 buses are starting to see delays of up to 10 minutes.
Traffic is also heavy heading into Newport on Fairlee Road.
Why close a road when busiest time of day now sch hols are here , could easily do the 6hrs at each end of day
Typical Island Road – couldn’t organise a p**s up in a brewery. The IOW is gradually becoming one giant road works. Top marks to Island Roads and Isle of Wight council for joint winners of non common sense and organised chaos.
Why does Park Road need so many repairs?! Island Roads are always closing it and causing chaos. Why can’t they do a proper job and do it once?

Yes money and there doing all the easy roads too wish we could get rid of island road and get a proper job done
Park road didn’t need any carriageway repairs,.. it was drainage survey.
& it was only closed for a couple of hours.
Compared with the daily 20+ minute delays by the Lynne bottom tip, it was nothing… That doesn’t get reported every time it happens???
Why all the fuss??
Anyone who thinks a 10 minutes delay is massive, has obviously lived here too long
If it was just a drainage survey then it wasn’t imperative that it was done now in the height of the holiday season. Also, it could have been done on one of the many occasions that it has been closed in the past.
Erm, no….it was being done now, because of blocked /collapsed drain causing flooding to properties in heavy rain.
Couldn’t be done in the past ‘cos it wasn’t blocked then… Needs to be done now, before the next torrential downpour (which we seem to be having a lot of ATM.)
Perhaps it would be good if you found out the facts before thinking you know better
