17 members of the ladies’ section at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club took to the course last week (Sunday 12th April) to compete for the historic Thomas Cup, battling challenging windy conditions throughout the day.
The Thomas Cup was originally donated to the club’s ladies’ section by Mrs Alice Thomas 54 years ago and remains one of the most sought-after trophies in the club’s calendar.
The annual competition is open to players who have either won or finished as runner-up in a stableford or par competition during the previous year, making for a strong field of competitors.
Despite the difficult conditions, Chris Gould secured victory with an impressive 35 points.
Ladies’ captain Vicki Guildford finished close behind in second place with 34 points, while Jane Wilson claimed third position with 30 points on countback from Catherine Bachelor.
