Firefighters Adam Wood and Jason Mathews have been handed their Long Service and Good Conduct medals having dedicated 20 years of their lives to serving the local community of Shanklin.
It was in the early 2000s that CM Wood and FF Mathews together joined the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which has since become Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Both firefighters are based at Shanklin Fire Station which operates on a retained ‘call out’ basis. The station responded to no less than 237 incidents in 2021 alone and had an average availability of 93.82%, making it the busiest and most reliable retained station on the Island – something made possible thanks to the dedication of firefighters such as Adam and Jason.
The medals, which recognise the dedication and professionalism of firefighters after 20 years’ service, were presented earlier this week by Group Manager Jeff Walls.
Well done lads and thank you for keeping us safe
