Members of Shanklin Royal British Legion welcomed Shanklin Mayor Robert May and IW RBL County President Ian Ward BEM to a special planting of a D-Day 80 Remembrance Rose in commemoration of the events of 1944. The event was held at the club on Collingwood Road in the town last Monday (20th May). Ian Ward said:
“Island residents are organising a range of events, from beacon lighting to participation in national events, with this event in Shanklin being part of local commemorations of D-Day 1944”.
Mayor Robert May added:
“Thanks to all at Shanklin RBL for organising today’s commemoration and providing the services they do to support service personnel pats and present, and into the future.”
Councillor May also presented Shanklin RBL with a framed copy of the Armed Forces Covenant which Shanklin have signed up to.
