Shanklin and Sandown Ladies Golf Club have triumphed in the prestigious Hayling Trophy, securing victory in the final at Wellow Golf Club.
The Hayling Trophy was initiated by Hayling Ladies Golf Club in 2004. A round-robin competition, aimed at high handicap golfers, it became so successful that, due to administrative constraints, Hampshire Ladies Golf took over the running of the competition in 2022.
Proving the popularity of the competition, the 2024/25 season saw 22 Hampshire clubs enter. However, on Friday 30th May, having won through to the final, the 5-strong team and their caddies from Shanklin and Sandown made the journey to Wellow Golf Club to meet the other finalists, Rowlands Castle.
With the weather holding fair, the 4 matches set off, watched by supporters from both camps. But, at days end, with 3 matches won, Shanklin and Sandown were the undoubted winners and brought the Hayling Trophy to the Island.
Whilst Match Captain, Connie Huntington, had employed a number of players throughout the season, her squad for the final comprised Fran Cole, Susan White, Julie Miller, Brenda Keyte and Vicki Guildford.
