A Shalfleet man who became abusive to members of the public whilst waiting for a bus, and then towards the bus driver, has been fined for his actions. 21-year-old Jack Hinch, of Burt Close, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Tuesday (25th June) charged with using threatening/abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress – a charge he pleaded guilty to. The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that Hinch was ‘goading for a fight’ at Yarmouth Bus Station on the evening of 18th May this year. The 21-year-old was refused entry to the bus as a result of his abusive actions, which led to an altercation with the bus driver. Liz Miller, prosecuting, said that Hinch admitted to having 3 or 4 beers that evening and that his behaviour had been aggressive, having been riled up by another male. The bench heard that Hinch was last in court in 2022 for driving offences, and in 2021 for a public order offences. Representing himself, Jack Hinch told the court that he had acted in self-defence, in relation to his actions to the bus driver, as he felt threatened. Hinch apoliged directly for his behaviour and language and stated that it doesn’t normally happen. Magistrates handed down a £133 fine and ordered costs to be paid of £14 with a £53 surcharge – a reduced amount due to a court administrative error which saw Hinch lose a day’s paid work.

He ‘apoliged’ apparently. I hope he was alright afterwards.
He has always been a nasty p–s head
Such mouthy B’stards need banging up.
Self defence?
against the bus driver?
i think not, more bullcrap from another feral “plastic gansta”
if you cannot handle allegedly 3 or 4 beers boyo,i suggest you dont drink, dickhead.
Southern vectis should ban him from using any buses, let him walk
He was already banned and he knew that too. He was trying his luck, refused travel so attacked the driver.
Drunk bus nutter. Hardly a big deal. Maybe go off the island for a night out and you will see hundreds of them. He’ll grow out of it but probably needs a good hiding first.
We, an elderly couple, encountered this individual on the bus some weeks ago and it was very unsettling, it would have been frightening for some. Abusing all on the lower deck, it’s my impression that he is also damaged through drug use, it was a horrible experience – no one should be expected to endure this, whilst just taking a bus journey.
He had a dog with him also, the welfare of which we were concerned about – but what can one do ?
Experience has taught me that the Police would not have been interested, so we were just very relieved when he got off at Ningwood, near Shalfleet.
Should be banned from all buses and put in the stocks for a weekend. Any abuse of bus drivers or passengers should result in a proper slap!
