Concerns about sewage being released into the sea on one of the hottest weekends of the year have been alleviated as Southern Water confirms all discharges were treated first.
The water company has recognised that an alert was sent to the Beachbuoy app stating that sewage had been released in the Bembridge, Yaverland, Sandown and Shanklin areas, the latest being at 20:00 last night (Sunday).
However, investigations have confirmed that all discharges were of treated water, not sewage.
A spokesperson for Southern Wate rhas said:
“We are aware of an alert to our Beachbuoy system, which provides near real-time information about releases of stormwater or wastewater in bathing areas.
“Initial enquiries have identified that the water released was fully treated, and not sewage, but investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
What hasn’t been made clear is why any discharges were taken place given the significant lack of rainfall in recent weeks.
So we are suppose to believe Southern Water over a interactive sewage monitering system with the background S.W have…… Sounds fishy to me.

Why is the government continuing to allow this. We’ve been in power for 12 years. Make it illegal already!
