Police have been called to a road traffic collision involving several vehicles at Blackwater Hollow between Newport and Rookley this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred on an S-Bend around halfway between Birchmore Lane and Highwood Lane.
As many as 4 vehicles are thought to have been involved. It’s unclear at this stage if there have been any injuries.
The road is said to be passable but there are delays in the area, which may have a knock-on effect to Southern Vectis buses.
UPDATE @ 16:54 – Police and paramedics are now on scene, at what is understood to be 2 separate collisions.
The road has been closed to all traffic. As a result, Southern Vectis Route 3 buses are diverting via Merstone in both directions.
UPDATE @ 17:25 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now on scene, alongside further resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Fire crews are working to extricate 1 male from a vehicle.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The road has now re-opened.

What as well as you ?
Yep, it’s looking like your one of them….
There seems to be a huge increase in RTCs on the island in recent years.
i witness almost every day a startling combination of fast, dangerous and inconsiderate driving by the younger element and plain stupidity and incompetence by the older generation.
Given that there is no longer a dedicated police road safety unit on the island (the armed response unit now undertake these duties) it is not surprising that RTCs are now so commonplace.
I had an idiot in a fiat 500 trying to push me (tail gating) the other day, what a joke. I was keeping to the speed limit. My car has a far bigger engine than theirs, I could have quite easily left them behind if I wanted to but somehow, I found myself driving even slower…
Probably the same one who tailgated me recently, young woman, Fiat 500, light coloured, incidentally between blackwater and arreton. What is so important that they have to drive like that, probably late for her manicure.
Very true Mr. Spike. As a delivery driver at night, the younger boy racers do go a bit crazy but I sure as hell won’t speed up just because they are tailgating. The OAPs are even worse, driving so slow it makes you insane. Not to mention older people are terrible at parking.
Any further news, is the road open
Something strange is happening on the island because each headline is, Car hits tree, Car leaves road, Car crash closes road, Car ends up on its roof, Car hits parked car, Cyclist is hit by car, Car mysteriously catches fire on waste land, Car catches fire overnight on the downs, but strangely as its seems none of these incidents can a driver be traced! sounds like another Roswell incident or strange but true episode!
Any ideas!
Because people don’t give a &£%^ anymore.
Some cars have collision awareness tech which applies brakes when too close to a vehicle in front of it. So, is that why some powerful cars race up behind me very close then back off, then repeat? I wonder? Is the driver of the vehicle doing this deliberately?
Wow think there is only one idiot here
TAILGATING: a frequent occurrence now and the cause of many a RTC, amongst other ridiculous things being taught by driving instructors. Who regulates these people, can anyone tell me? Several people have told me that you have to have ONE car’s length between you and in front, including a guy who tailgated me all the way home at 30mph, one car’s length behind me. Highway code: the stopping distance at 30mph is 23 metres, that’s 75ft! And don’t get me started on the mini-roundabout indicating thing.
Following cars should keep to the 2 second rule – longer in poor conditions.
