A crash on the dual carriageway in Newport has closed the road in a southbound direction tonight (Sunday).
Emergency services are currently on scene at Medina Way, close to the slipway by Wakes Retail Park.
Firefighters are in attendance with 2 appliances from Newport mobilised to assist colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police.
UPDATE @ 20:56 – 1 person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital as a result of a 2-car crash.
It was initially feared that persons were trapped inside the vehicles, but the fire service were quickly able to ascertain this wasn’t the case.
Both vehicles have been recovered from the scene but the road remains closed whilst an oil spill is cleared from the carriageway.
It’s anticipated that the southbound lanes will re-open within the next hour.
UPDATE @ 22:35 – The dual carriageway has now reopened in both directions.
Thoughts with all those involved especially this time of year when it’s a family time/Christmas, I hope all injuries are not too serious
ROADS ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT ARE VERY DANGEROUS.
PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO PARK ON PAVEMENTS MAKING IT UNSAFE FOR OTHER MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS.
IF YOU DRIVE ALONG GREAT PRESTON ROAD IN RYDE THIS EVENING IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AN ACCIDENT IS WAITING TO HAPPEN.
THERE IS A LARGE WHITE VAN – VEH REG T6 UDL PARKED OUTSIDE NUMBER 90 GREAT PRESTON ROAD, RYDE.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IT IS ON A BEND OUTSIDE THE COUNCIL HOUSES!
Can you be more specific about this white van please?
People don’t often have a great deal of choice when it comes to parking. The other solution to the problem you describe would be for the road users to take more care don’t you think?
You mean people don’t like to use their legs!
the council and island roads stop were ever they want with no problems no parking tickets. They are getting paid while working and parking any were yet they will gladly ticket the working backbone of this island and give them no were to park to do there job. So you relay think a builder plumber electrician and so on should be walking to work with there tools cement mixers and so on? Lets just hope you dont get a huge water leak flooding your house waiting for a plumber to walk to your house to fix you leak.
Maybe they can’t. Maybe they have young children, bags and bags of shopping? You judgmental twerp.
Bore off John
You don’t live down this road it’s true ,it’s a accident waiting to happen. This van and a couple of others along this road could easily park on the industrial estate at Nicholson .
What’s that got to do with an accident on the dual carriageway?
Yaaaaawwwwwn
Whats that to do with the crash on the dual carriage way
A lot of people don’t check the state of their tires until it fails the MOT. As I walk my dog in the morning I see so many parked cars with very low tread or none at all. The tyres are the first part in your suspension, your steering and your drive line. They are one of the most important safety devices of a car yet they get abused and ignored.
Probably still took 2hrs for an ambulance
