Ryde Town Council has announced a new project aimed at providing a serene escape where residents can connect with nature, grow vegetables and unwind. The initiative involves cultivating a green space off Riboleau Street within the town to create a community garden. Working in collaboration with Riboleau Studios and Aspire Ryde, the Town Council’s vision is to create not just a garden, but a hands-on learning experience for primary school children and their families. The project has gained enthusiastic support from various stakeholders. Working closely with students from Ryde School, preparations for the garden’s Spring launch are well underway, but there’s still plenty of work to be done. All residents, whether seasoned gardeners or eager learners, are being invited to a garden blitz between 10:00-12:30 on Saturday 23rd March. This community-driven event will involve setting up a polytunnel, pruning, weeding, and preparing the garden to welcome visitors of all ages. Alison Pearce, Community Development Officer, has said:
“Our goal is to create a space that fosters community engagement, promotes sustainable living, and provides educational opportunities for all. Your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute are all that’s needed to make this project a success. Whether you’re passionate about gardening or simply eager to lend a hand, we welcome your participation.”
For those interested in volunteering on Saturday 23rd March, or staying informed about future volunteering, is asked to email [email protected] or call 07496382950.

Very good. Teach the kids how to grow veg and they will be well set for the future. It will save them a fortune and make them healthy.
They’ll need to be taught how to cook, as well. Nobody else will teach them.
Then maybe they can teach their pizza-dependent parents.
FIRST we need to teach them to tell their older siblings not to vandalise it all ‘for a laff’.
Doomed to failure imo
That’s a good idea… good luck..
