The National Police Air Service helicopter has joined officers and search teams on the ground at Parkhurst Forest tonight (Monday) in the search for a missing person.
WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search and rescue team – were called out by Police shortly before 18:00 to conduct an urgent search of the Marks Corner area of Parkhurst, between Newport and Cowes.
It is currently unclear who Police are looking for as an appeal is yet to be issued.
The NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth has been circling overhead for 45 minutes and continues to sweep the area in a bid to locate the individual at the centre of the large scale search.
Volunteers and officers are making their way through Parkhurst Forest and the surrounding area.
It is thought the individual may have gone missing from an address in the Marks Corner area.
UPDATE @ 21:55 – It is understood that the individual has been successfully located.
The National Police Air Service helicopter has stood down and returned to Dorset having spent over an hour in the skies above Newport.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Police have confirmed that they were called just after 17:00 to a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman in Newport. Officers attended and the woman was located.
