Pupils and staff at The Bay CE School are celebrating after winning 1st place in their heat of Dance Live at Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday (23rd February).
The Sandown-based school also won Best LED Screen Content and the Fellowship Award, which is judged by the other schools taking part.
Their entry ‘Save Our Rainforest’ was performed by 51 pupils in front of an audience of over 300 people, with confidence and presence. They beat 6 schools from across the South Coast and will now perform in the finals in April (date to be confirmed soon).
The school would like to thank all of the children for their hard work over the past 4 months and their parents and carers for their support.
Steph Dunford, from The Bay CE School, said:
“As a Dance Live staff team, we were so proud of the children’s performance and behaviour throughout the day. Due to their impeccable conduct and supportive behaviour to each other, and towards the others competing, they were awarded the Fellowship award! This was nominated by the other schools and the Dance Live Event team.
“The judges said their performance was slick and was like watching something from Broadway. They said the children had great energy, enthusiasm and expression that was seen throughout their performance.
“We would also like to thank the parents, carers and families for their support on the day and with costumes, fundraising and giving up their time for the children to attend weekend rehearsals.”
Sienna Pierce, from Year 6, said:
“I absolutely loved being part of Dance Live. My part was a wood cutter. I love how our performance told a story. The team is made up of children from across the school and I am really proud of how well everyone worked together.”
Maisie Holbrook, also from Year 6, added:
“The whole day was brilliant, from the hair and makeup to the rehearsals and the performance. The staff who helped were so kind, they kept us calm and helped to motivate us. We put our everything into the performance, using every bit of energy! We can’t wait for the finals.”
