The dream of a Marbella-style beach club in Sandown seems to be over as it is announced that the Origin project has been ‘cancelled’ by the Carlauren group.
At the beginning of May it was revealed that a luxury beach club would be opening at the former Kings House bar in Sandown on 1st July this year. However, just weeks after that announcement, it has now been confirmed that the project has been cancelled due to ‘issues with building works’.
Locals have been raising questions about the likelihood of the club opening on time as the premises on the Esplanade is still very much a building site. Expressing their disappointment at the situation, one resident has today (Tuesday) said: “Well I never….another bomb site for Sandown for the foreseeable future. A great tourist attraction”.
Carlauren group were promising a place for guests to stay and play in the company of good music, food and champagne. Both indoor and al fresco dining, poolside loungers and sunset parties were said to be coming to Sandown, but that promise now seems to be broken.
The former Ocean hotel next door to the proposed Origin beach club is currently undergoing refurbishment and is set to re-open next year as Ocean House. It is unclear if the Ocean Hotel project, also run by the Carlauren group, is affected by this latest news.
Island Echo approached Origin’s PR company this lunchtime to be told that they no longer represent Origin or its affiliates.
An official statement reads:
“The project of Origin, a beach club and accommodation on the Isle of Wight has been cancelled due to issues with building works. For further information, please contact Carlauren: [email protected] or call 01935 319 830″.
