Sandown Community Association, in partnership with Sandown Town Council and other agencies, has secured a £30,000 South Western Railway Customer & Communities Improvement Fund grant to develop accessibility in Sandown.
The grant will help provide accessible toilets and an accessible beach safety service, as well as information screens at Sandown Railway Station and Sandown Library to provide public transport and community information.
It will also help with the town’s guide for residents and visitors alike, produced by the Association.
Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot says:
“The Guide has been well received by local residents and visitors, and includes a range of information from local services to activities, promotes local businesses and has bus and train information.”
Ian Fletcher, from Sandown Community Association, adds:
“We are delighted to receive this grant, and work with the Town Council, who helped pump-prime the Guide, to provide information screens at key locations in the Town’.
The Town Council is also working with partner agencies on a Changing Places facility at Eastern Gardens, improved amenities at Sandham Grounds, and other accessibility projects in the town.

This is the woke! They’ll sneak in extending the pavement for the fat people, the benefit scroungers, the mobility scooter users.
Bless you, you little wokeflake.
Giving disabled people equal access to facilities is not only required by law, it’s just the right thing to do in society. In the same way that even though you’re clearly quite bitter and angry, you’re still allowed to have your say – no matter how ridiculous.
I wish I could understand this.
What’s ‘an accessible beach safety service’? An accessible beach, yes, but an accessible beach safety service? What’s that?
‘provide information screens at key locations in the Town’? Information screens about what, exactly? Is there anything happening in Sandown which really requires information screens dotted around the town?
And, as for ‘helped pump-prime the Guide’. What on earth does that mean?
This is what’s called Authority speak, councillors and politicians are fluent in it. The reasoning is, if you don’t understand what they are saying you wont question it. Remember, bullshit baffles brains.
Having said that, i hope the cash does improve some peoples lives.
Dont make me laugh
Sandown are charging 50p to use the toilets by the Sundial Cafe
Stinging holidaymakers and Locals.
As if they will help the people.
Information Screen at the station to inform visitors that there are no buses running to the town. Be careful where you walk due to dog’s mess and sorry about our dilapidated buildings. And dont upset the dossers on the sea front!
