Staff at Sainsbury’s in Newport have donated foodstuffs, essentials and clothing to help support the ongoing efforts in Turkey.
Last week, 2 high-magnitude earthquakes struck parts of South East Turkey and Northern Syria, crumbling homes and infrastructure in the process, leaving thousands without anything as a result.
Store manager of Sainsbury’s Supermarket in Newport, Charlie Bird, was approached by Turkish A-level student Nur Korkmaz earlier this week. Nur’s family has been deeply affected by the devastating natural disaster.
Among the items donated included hats, socks, nappies, adult hygiene products, baby food and baby formula.
Nur has told Island Echo:
“We cannot thank Mr Bird and staff at the Sainsbury’s store in Newport and we hope that the generosity can motivate other supermarket chains to do the same.”
The goods will now be boxed up and sent to the collection point.
