The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary had to say goodbye to another of its beloved donkeys, Eric, yesterday (Tuesday) after more than 20 years at the Wroxall sanctuary. Eric has been described as a lovable, fluffy white donkey, who was in his 40s. He had lived at the Sanctuary for over 20 years and was always happy to have attention and scratches. In recent times, Eric had suffered from age-related conditions and was being closely monitored by the yard team and local Island vets. He had recurring abscesses in one of his hooves, and acute sores that were causing his health to deteriorate. The decision to help him pass peacefully was made. A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary has said:
“It’s always the toughest of decisions to make. “Eric was surrounded by members of our yard team and one of his closest companions, Harvey. “Eric will be remembered fondly, with his friendly personality and gorgeous long fluffy ears. “Rest in Peace sweet boy”.

It is always sad when a beloved animal dies but perhaps the greatest comfort is knowing that for 20 years the sanctuary gave him a lovely life.
