The Veterans Lounge in Ryde has celebrated its 1-year anniversary.
Located on the High Street, Veterans lounge opened its doors on 19th December 2021 and since that date, has welcomed veterans from the Island as well as from the mainland with over 1,500 people visiting the lounge for a coffee and a chat with some receiving further help and assistance.
Last month’s anniversary celebrations were attended by the HM Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Susie Sheldon, HM Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Brigadier M J Sheen CBE QVRM TD DL, High Sheriff, Mrs K A Marriott, Ryde Mayor Michael Lilley and many others.
This included a buffet and a presentation to double amputee Roy Hayward who landed in France on the evening of D-Day.
Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon made a speech saying:
“It is fantastic to see the veterans lounge flourish and bring together the veteran community”.
Chair of the Veterans Hub said:
“Our aim at the lounge is to bring veterans out of isolation and to bring them together in a comfortable environment and socialise with other veterans, the hub is run by a team of volunteers that support veterans and their families”.

The Veterans lounge is open 7 days a week and any military, veterans, emergency services and their families are welcome.
